Our Volcanic Stone Molcajetes

From Cerro del Águila, Michoacán

Our molcajetes are crafted from volcanic stone extracted from Cerro del Águila, located within the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt in the state of Michoacán. This region is rich in basaltic volcanic rock, an ideal material for making molcajetes due to its natural porosity and durability.

Since pre-Hispanic times, the molcajete has been an essential tool in Mexican cuisine, used to grind spices, chilies, herbs, and prepare salsas with an authentic flavor that is impossible to achieve with modern methods. The unique texture of volcanic stone allows ingredients to blend evenly, enhancing their aroma and taste.

Each molcajete is handcrafted by skilled Mexican artisans who have inherited this ancestral tradition, ensuring unique, high-quality pieces. Its strength and durability make it a kitchen tool that can be passed down for generations.
